In June 2000 the then Minister for Enterprise and Life Long Learning Mr Henry McLeish inaugurated the National Textiles Forum. It’s stated aim was to help the Scottish Executive to develop measures to support the textile industry and to provide an opportunity for regular consultation on issues facing the industry.
The Forum has now evolved into a body with a core membership of 10 people. Members comprise of representatives from different sectors of the industry and other bodies with a direct interest in the textile industry in Scotland. The main textile sectors - Apparel, Weaving, Technical Textiles and Knitwear - account for 80% of textiles employment in Scotland.
